Understanding Gymnastics Judging

Gymnastics Code of Points

Gymnastics judging is the process of scoring a gymnast’s performance based on execution, difficulty, and artistry. Judges evaluate each skill and routine to ensure fair and consistent scoring in competitions across the United States.

Why Do We Need Judging?

How Are Performances Scored?

Scores in gymnastics consist of two main components:

  1. Difficulty Score (D-Score): Points awarded based on the complexity of the routine.
  2. Execution Score (E-Score): Points deducted for errors such as poor form, balance checks, or falls.

The final score is calculated by adding the D-Score to the E-Score after deductions. Understanding these rules helps gymnasts in the USA prepare for local, state, and national competitions.

Tips for Gymnasts

By understanding how routines are judged, gymnasts across the United States can strategize better, improve skills, and perform confidently in competitions.
