Injury Prevention in Gymnastics
Manage training load, technique, equipment and recovery to reduce avoidable injuries.

Preparation matters
A warm-up should increase temperature, prepare relevant joints and rehearse the movement patterns used in the session.
Monitor training load
Sudden increases in repetitions, impact or difficulty can exceed an athlete’s current capacity. Record workload and plan easier periods around intense training.
Respond to pain
Pain is information, not a test of character. Persistent pain, swelling, weakness or loss of movement requires assessment by an appropriate healthcare professional.
Return gradually
Returning from injury should rebuild movement, strength, confidence and sport-specific load in stages.
